International Women’s Day 2024

International Women's Day 2024

The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) extends its warmest greetings to everyone celebrating International Women’s Day. March 8, every year, holds great significance as we celebrate the achievements and resilience of women globally, particularly Indigenous women, girls, and gender diverse individuals. It is only through the lens of transformational justice that we can imagine a world that is truly safe, just and committed to empowering Indigenous women who are the most marginalized among the marginalized, being the recipients of triple discrimination for being women, Indigenous and poor.

AIPP recognizes and honors the invaluable contributions of Indigenous women leaders, organizations, networks, and supporters in Asia and beyond. Indigenous women and girls have consistently demonstrated strong leadership, wisdom, and cultural knowledge, enriching indigenous communities and preserving their values and self-determination.

To nurture greater leadership among Indigenous women and girls, it’s crucial to invest in them, empowering them to lead movements, champion their rights, and uphold their indigenous cultures, values, and wisdom. Progress is hindered without the active involvement of half the population. Investing in  Indigenous women and girls should be a priority for all in leaving no one behind; as true progress of Indigenous communities must be marked by the opportunities for growth we create for our women and girls.

Thus, AIPP wholeheartedly embraces this year’s theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” urging partners, supporters, and allies to prioritize investing in Indigenous girls and women.

As an organization committed to advancing the rights and empowerment of Indigenous peoples, including women and girls, AIPP reaffirms its dedication to supporting them in creating generations of women’s leadership by amplifying their voices, addressing their specific and intersectional needs and challenges, and recognizing their advocacy for positive change within Indigenous communities. We strive to promote gender equality and social justice within Indigenous communities.

On this International Women’s Day, let us unite in solidarity to empower Indigenous women and girls, ensuring their entitlement to equality, dignity, and respect. Together, we can bring about meaningful change and establish a community where gender equality is a reality for everyone.
