4th September 2025
We express our deep concern regarding the recent developments in Indonesia. Between 25–31 August 2025, TEMPO newspaper reported that 3,195 protesters were arrested, with 55 individuals formally identified as suspects. The situation has escalated significantly, raising serious concerns over policymakers’ decisions regarding housing allowances for Members of Parliament and increasing issues of corruption, and the resulting impact on the safety and well-being of countless individuals—particularly Indigenous Peoples, marginalized communities, and human rights defenders.
At this critical juncture, our thoughts are with all those affected. We recognize the resilience and courage of the Indonesian people and reaffirm our solidarity with them in their pursuit of justice, human rights, and inclusive governance.
It is imperative that all stakeholders act with unity, empathy, and responsibility to ensure stability, safety, and well-being of all communities. We are especially alarmed by information of widespread human rights violations in Indonesia.
We strongly condemn the Indonesian Government’s failure to prevent and effectively manage the recent riots that have caused widespread fear, caused destruction, and loss within the nation. The government’s inability to protect civilians, prevent violence, guarantee security, to halt military deployment and uphold democratic principles in times of crisis reflects a serious lapse in governance.
We express our full support for the initiative led by civilians, and peoples movement in Indonesia in order to maintain unity and uphold human rights in a peaceful and dignified manner, as reflected in the slogan “THE PEOPLE PROTECT PEOPLE.”
The use of excessive force, the failure of timely intervention in a timely manner, and the ongoing disregard for the rights of citizens, rights must not be tolerated. The people of Indonesia deserve a government that prioritizes peace, justice, and stability – not one that permits violence and repression to persist.
We urgently call on to President Of Republic Indonesia, To Head Of House Of Parliament, and To Head Of Indonesian Police Department:
The world is watching, and history will judge the actions taken at this defining moment. Indonesia must show that it is capable of upholding justice, peace, the rights of Indigenous Peoples and democratic responsibility.
