Happy International Day for Biodiversity! Today, the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact and the Indigenous Knowledge and Peoples of Asia (IKPA) stand proud in our commitment to amplifying the voices of Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
To kick off our celebrations, we are honored to share a special video message from Mr. Prasert, Executive Director of PASD Thailand and an esteemed member of the AIPP Foundation Board. In this insightful message, Mr. Prasert sheds light on the pivotal work PASD is undertaking alongside Indigenous Peoples, focusing on capacity building, networking, advocacy, and the inter-generational transmission of knowledge.
The groundwork laid by Indigenous Peoples and their Organizations is not just important but essential for the successful implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Mr. Prasert also highlights the promising shifts in the Thai government’s approach, particularly in supporting the traditional livelihoods of Indigenous Peoples, such as rotational farming.
Rotational farming is a sustainable land-use practice of Karen Indigenous Peoples. It is deeply rooted in their traditional knowledge, philosophy, and spirituality. It is good for nature and good for biodiversity conservation.
Watch the video to delve deeper into his insights and join us in celebrating the invaluable contributions of Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous Women, Indigenous Youth, and Indigenous Persons with Disabilities toward biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
Let’s pave the way where Indigenous Peoples will be represented in the driving seat of the decision-making relating to all climate and biodiversity actions at all levels!
