Mr. Binota Moy Dhamai is a member of the Jumma-Tripura, one of the Indigenous Peoples of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh. Mr. Binota has almost two decades of experience in the Indigenous Peoples’ rights movement, network building, campaign, and advocacy, at the national, regional, and global levels. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity framework has acknowledged the important roles of Indigenous Peoples. Mr. Binota emphasizes that acknowledging and mentioning Indigenous Peoples in the document is not enough. This needs to be reflected in actions at national and international levels.

Mr. Binota stresses that achieving Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework along with the recognition and respectful relationship with Indigenous Peoples, it is the right time to ensure the Indigenous Peoples’ full effective, and meaningful participation in the decision-making processes through their customary and traditional institutions, self-governance bodies to address the threats to biodiversity conservation and management.
