Indigenous Peoples’ Voices on Biodiversity: Ms. Nittaya Earkanna – Thailand

The historic Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework recognizes the important roles and contributions of Indigenous Peoples as custodians of biodiversity and partners in conservation, restoration, and sustainable use.

Through her video message, Ms. Nittaya Earkanna recommends that Asian Governments ensure the active participation of Indigenous Peoples in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Ms. Nittaya asserts, “We, Indigenous Peoples are rights-holders. We are ready to move forward and implement the new biodiversity framework.”

Ms. Nittaya Earkanna is a member of the Hmong Indigenous Peoples of Thailand. She serves as the Executive Director of the Inter-Mountain Peoples Education and Culture in Thailand Association (IMPECT) and represents the Mekong sub-region in the Executive Council of AIPP. Ms. Nittaya was a part of the Asian Indigenous Peoples delegation at COP15 and made significant contributions to the overall engagement and influence of Indigenous Peoples at COP15.
