Indigenous Peoples’ Rights To Lands, Territories And Resources In Asia And 2030 Agenda For Sustainable Development

The briefing paper analyses the importance and situation of the rights of Indigenous Peoples to their lands, territories and resources in Asia towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It also examines the efforts made by Asian States and Indigenous Peoples in addressing the rights of Indigenous Peoples, including rights to their lands, territories and resources, as well as the challenges in implementing those rights in the SDGs-related processes. It aims to respond to the need of data on the realization of the rights of Indigenous Peoples to their lands, territories and resources in the context of achieving the SDGs in the region. The desk review undertaken to produce this briefing paper focuses on selected countries in Asia, namely Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
