JOAS and AIPP Joint Submission for Malaysia’s 3rd UPR Cycle

Jaringan Orang Asal SeMalaysia (JOAS), together with Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP), jointly submitted the Human Rights Situation of the Indigenous Peoples (Orang Asal) in Malaysia for the 3rd cycle of Universal Periodic Review of Malaysia on 29 March 2018.
Among the recommendations that JOAS highlighted are:
- development of a national action plan on indigenous peoples, in relation to their commitment to the 2030 Agenda and as a follow-up to the WCIP Outcome Document
- establishment of Orang Asal tribunal to look into Indigenous Peoples’ rights disputes with different parties.
- formation of a National Commission on Indigenous Peoples as this commission can address many issues faced by the Orang Asal
- ratification of the ILO Convention 169 and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination
