Yasso Kanti Bhattachan belongs to Thakali Indigenous Peoples from Nepal. Ms. Yasso has been working for the rights of Indigenous women and girls for many years.
In her indigenous language, Ms. Yasso offers prayers to her deities, seeking their blessings. Lha Lhanga Nhurbu, Churning Ghyalmo, Ghankla Sinki Karpo, Lha Hyawarhanjung, Lha Nari Chyowa, Mom, Khe, Mother, Father, and spirits are invoked for their guidance and support.
We, the Indigenous Peoples of the world comprising 5% of the total population of the world have been conserving 80% of the world’s biodiversity.
Ms. Yasso emphasizes, “We tirelessly work in our ancestral lands, communities, and at the international level to preserve biodiversity and stop the exploitation of our Mother Earth by colonizers and outsiders. Let us join forces and ensure our rights for a better future.”
