In a video message, Mr. Jagat Baram explains that Indigenous Peoples in Nepal live within or near forests and have been sustainably managing their natural resources, including forests, for generations, guided by their own traditional norms, values, and practices.
Mr. Jagat highlights that Indigenous Peoples in Nepal are impacted by climate change and emphasizes the need to protect Mother Earth.
Mr. Jagat is a member of the Baram Indigenous Community in Nepal. He is the former chair of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), which is a member organization of AIPP.
Currently, Mr. Jagat represents the South Asia sub-region on the Executive Council of AIPP.
